Goodbye, 2018

Goodbye, 2018

I dedicate this strip to my friend, Seth DeMoor.

I met Seth years ago.  At the time he was biking across the United States collecting video stories for One Billion Stories.  This was very early on – I think they only had a few hundred stories.  Seth really struck me as someone to keep an eye on – he had a lot of talent and passion.

So every so often I’d google “Seth DeMoor” to see what he was doing. About three years ago, I got bitten by the YouTube bug. I started subscribing to daily vlog YouTubers like Shay Carl, Casey Neistat, Roman Atwood… The thought crossed my mind, I wonder if Seth is doing this.  Sure enough, after a quick search I found that Seth had started his own daily vlog.  I subscribed.

Fast forward to today, Seth has gone over the 1,000 daily vlog mark.  The majority of his videos had relatively low views – especially considering the quality of video Seth was producing.  But 2018 was a breakout year for him.  His daily vlog pivoted a bit into one of his great passions, running.  In focusing his vlog on running, he found his audience – or maybe his audience found him.  He sprinted from 1,000 subscribers to his current total of 6,833 and now each of his daily vlogs get thousands of views.

That’s pretty inspirational to me.  While I don’t produce comics on a daily basis, I do work on them every day to hit the Monday, Wednesday, Friday deadlines.  And those deadlines always seem to be right around the corner!  How does Seth do daily?  I hope to figure that out with my comics some day… year.

2018 will go down as the year I actually made Big Sea Tales a reality.  I’ve had similar aspirations for 2017, 2016, 2015.  Lots of intended launch dates over those years, no comic.  After lots of hard work and hitting hard deadlines, this comic was finally launched.

I have big plans for Big Sea Tales in 2019.  I’m really glad you’re here for the adventure!  I wish you all the best for the new year.
